Which golf region of Morocco suits you?
Moroccan golf falls into four broad regions, and each plays differently. Choosing the right one matters more than choosing the right hotel. The quickest way to decide is to ask what you want from the days you are not on the course.
Marrakech and the foot of the Atlas: the widest choice
Golf holidays in Marrakech give you the strongest rotation in the country: around ten courses within half an hour of the city, and they are all different. There is desert-style golf at Assoufid, water and sculpture at Al Maaden, Cabell Robinson's classic Amelkis, the Nicklaus Design width of Samanah and the century-old Royal Golf Marrakech. You can play five days without repeating a style. Off the course, the medina, the restaurants and the Atlas Mountains make it the best choice for non-golfing partners. It is superb from October to May, but too hot for midday golf in July and August.
The Atlantic coast: sunshine, links and sea views
The coast is where Morocco's golf is most reliable. Agadir golf holidays mean five courses within 40 minutes and temperatures between 21°C and 28°C in every month. They include Tazegzout, a Kyle Phillips course on the cliffs above Taghazout Bay. Further north, Rabat is home to Royal Golf Dar Es Salam, host of the Hassan II Trophy since 1971. El Jadida has Gary Player's links at Mazagan, the closest thing in Morocco to British or Irish links golf. Essaouira adds the wind-blown Mogador course, and Casablanca is the gateway that connects them.
The Mediterranean north: beaches and quiet resorts
Tangier pairs the historic Royal Golf de Tanger with the Al Houara resort course on the Atlantic, and is easy to reach by ferry from Spain. Along the Mediterranean, Tetouan and Tamuda Bay have the Royal Golf de Cabo Negro beneath the Rif mountains. Saidia and Nador in the north-east are relaxed beach-and-golf escapes with 5★ resorts, several of them all-inclusive.
The imperial interior: Fez and the Middle Atlas
Fez wraps two courses, Royal Golf de Fès and Oued Fès, around the world's largest car-free medina. An hour or so into the Middle Atlas, Ifrane has Michlifen, a Jack Nicklaus signature course in cedar and oak forest that feels nothing like the rest of Morocco. Together they make a seven-night golf-and-culture week.
Which destination is best in each season?
- October to May: everywhere works, and Marrakech is at its best.
- December and January: Agadir is the warmest reliable golf in the country.
- June to September: head for the coast, either Agadir, Essaouira or El Jadida, or the Mediterranean resorts. Inland Marrakech and Fez regularly pass 38°C.
Our month-by-month guide to golf in Morocco has temperatures for each region.
Can you combine golf destinations in one trip?
Yes, and two-centre weeks are what we arrange most often. Marrakech and Agadir are three hours apart on the A7 motorway. Marrakech or Rabat pair with Mazagan at El Jadida. Fez combines with Ifrane, and the Imperial Cities and Grand Tour itineraries link four or five regions over 10 to 14 nights. See our Morocco golf tours for the full itineraries, compare Marrakech vs Agadir, or read our ranking of the best golf courses in Morocco to choose by course.
Across all 12 destinations we offer 123 hotel, golf-pass and golf-resort packages, with tee times, transfers and on-the-ground support arranged by our Marrakech team. Tell us your dates and we will recommend the right region for your group.
Golf destinations in Morocco: FAQs
Where is the best place to play golf in Morocco?
